Welcome to the Bedhampton Pianoshop Blog!

We have been restoring and selling pianos since 1988. We specialise in restoring and reconditioning old pianos, both upright and grand. Our work ranges from minor servicing right through to complete overhauls and rebuilding projects which take many weeks to complete.

The aim of the blog is to post regular progress reports on ongoing restoration work, as well as updates on the current available stock and any new arrivals. Where possible these updates will be accompanied by photos to demonstrate the work that we do.

'Thank you so much Graham, not forgetting David too, for persuading me to have my superb 1935 Hopkinson piano. I really thought a new modern piano was what I should have but am so pleased with the amazing restoration job you and the rest of the team worked so hard to achieve. It looks like new, fits into my room perfectly, plays beautifully and is much admired. Thank you for including us in watching its progress and the valued friendly and helpful service.

Another happy customer

Hello Graham,
Just wanted to write and thank you for a first rate service. As you know my piano which I have owned from new, since early 1970's, was in a serious state having been left in a farmhouse for sometime and been attacked by mice and moth inside and out.
It was so bad, I was seriously considering taking it to the dump and actually took it outside for a day to do just that. However sentimental reasons held me back as I did not want to part with it.
I cannot beleive that my beloved piano now looks in such excellant condition.
You managed to take care of all the problems and I am now proud to have it back in my home. It is a joy to look at, all woodwork gleaming and all chewed keys etc renewed and of course it now plays well.
I would not hesitate to recommend you to anyone- I considered the 'state' of my piano to be the ultimate challenge!!
Also first rate service to your collection and delivery service team, who were reliable, on time and no fuss.
If anyone is in doubt about having work done please show them before and after pictures of my Kemble enough said........
Thankyou very much, from a very satisfied customer, Josie Saiers. WELLOW

Record Sales for September

The last few weeks have seen a noticeable increase in customers through the door, and September is proving to be a very busy month. Since the last blog, we have sold both our John Broadwood uprights, the attractive Paul Werner upright and our Steinway grand. With a deposit also placed on our 1930's Hopkinson upright, we are working flat out to prepare pianos both for customers and for our shop.

On the restoration front, the 1897 Bechstein upright (pictured) has reached the end of the long rebuilding process and is now ready to be viewed and played. All the remains to be done are a couple more tunings as the new strings settle in. The hard work is proving worthwhile, as this is comfortably the nicest Bechstein upright that we have sold to date. Also on display in the shop is our one remaining Grotrian Steinweg (below). This too has had a comprehensive restoration, and the previously black casework looks superb in it's natural satin finish.

There are plenty more pianos in the pipeline, including uprights from Chappell, Challen, Rogers, John Brinsmead and Zender. For those customers seeking the highest quality pianos, we also have a second Bechstein, a Bluthner and a Kaps upright all currently awaiting some degree of restoration. All of these pianos are in various states of repair, so please call before visiting to avoid a wasted trip.

As always, get in touch if you have any queries or requests. Visit our website at http://www.bedhamptonpianoshop.co.uk/ to see details of the restoration work that we do, and to view all of our current stock.

Caroline & Richard PETERSFIELD

Dear Graham,

Thank you for the lovely John Broadwood grand piano which you restored and sold us last year. We really appreciated the time you gave us to try all the pianos in your shop and were impressed by your knowledge and enthusiasm, as well as that of your assistant, who also did some excellent playing for us. You answered all our questions, were most helpful about our central heating and humidity issues and did not press us into making a rash decision We enjoyed watching the slow and careful restoration process with photographs of the progress and made a couple of visits to see the work you were doing. We are delighted with the end result, which sounds terrific and is played virtually every day by our pianist daughter who has made enthusiastic progress since it arrived and by the rest of the family and countless visitors. It is also stunningly beautiful, in the stain and finish we chose and is a magnet for attention in the room.
Thanks also for coming promptly last month to sort out the minor mechanical problem of 2 keys which had shifted slightly.
We are convinced you gave us excellent value for our money and a really good service; I have recommended your shop to a couple of friends and will not hesitate to do so again.

Best Regards,

Dr. Caroline Welch

Business booming

March & April have been the best months for the last 20 years, after a slow start to the year business is doing very well. A lot of our higher priced pianos have been selling, Steinway,Grotrian Steinweg,& Bechstein as well as some medium priced pianos. The reason for this is our pricing structure. If we buy in a piano at a very good price we pass the savings onto our customers, rather then hang on for the maximum profit we can achieve.
All our pianos are priced realistically, and we always go the extra mile on our restoration work.
Customer service is second nature to us ,we realize without you the customer we do not have a business. (click on link below for customer testimonials)

Third Steinweg Available Soon

Only a week since the last progress report, but our third Grotrian Steinweg upright is well on the way to being completed. Repolishing of the case should be completed within the next few days, and all other aspects of the internal reconditioning are finished, ready for re-assembly and regulation of the piano.

Work also commenced on the second ebony Bechstein upright. The casework has already been prepared for polishing, and restoration of the action and other parts is under way.

Both of these pianos should be available to view and play soon.

Finally, we will shortly begin some preliminary stages of restoration on the Steinway grand. This piano is available with three different pricing options, so that restoration can be tailored to your requirements and budget. Call or pay us a visit to discuss these options in detail. If you are interested in this piano, please phone ahead to avoid disappointment, as certain stages of the restoration process will render the piano unplayable for a period of time.

As always, get in touch if you have any queries or requests. Visit our website at http://www.bedhamptonpianoshop.co.uk/ to see details of the restoration work that we do, and to view all of our current stock.

Grotrian,Bechstein,& starter pianos

Plenty of restoration going on over the last few weeks.

Two new pianos are now completed and ready to view and play. One of our Ebony Bechsteins has just been regulated, which completes the required reconditioning. As mentioned last week, the casework has been repolished in the original black finish, and the worn out ivories have been replaced with a new set of white key tops.

Also available to see in the shop is the second of our three Grotrian Steinwegs (see photo). This piano dates from around 1926 and is an excellent example. A throrough reconditioning has ensured that this piano is outstanding both to play and hear. This piano is currently available at a special sale price of £4400, which represents superb value for a Steinweg of this era and quality. CLICK for slideshow.
http://picasaweb.google.com/bedhamptonpianoshop/GrotrianSteinwegUpright#slideshow

Since the last update the Hopkinson upright (photo) has been completed and sold, having attracted a considerable amount of attention before even being completed. However, there are more restored uprights in the pipeline, with another Steinweg and a second Bechstein both in the workshop currently.

Finally, we also have a couple of part exchange pianos which are being sold cheaply at £400 and £595. These pianos will be checked over by us, and would be ideal for a young beginner.

Visit our website at http://www.bedhamptonpianoshop.co.uk/ to see details of the restoration work that we do, and to view all of our current stock.
